These two models are currently some of Canon's best compact digital cameras in the market. Although they are designed for the same market niche, there are certain features that make them distinctively unique. Here is a detailed comparison of the Canon PowerShot SD1100IS and the Canon PowerShot SD880IS digital camera
Price: The SD1100IS currently costs around $230 while the Canon SD880IS costs around $245 each. The price difference of about $15 is of not an accurate indicator of the features found on each model.
Winner: Canon PowerShot SD1100IS digital camera
Design: The Canon SD1100IS sports a simple rectangular design with silver colored finishes. The SD 880IS sports a more adventurous design with some curves and bold patterns. One side of the SD 880IS is curved outwards, perhaps to provide a better grip. Some of the buttons on the back have a large, bulging design that adds to the edginess of the whole look (it also makes it much easier to press them). The SD1100IS comes in 5 different colors (blue, silver, pink, brown and gold). The Canon SD880IS on the other hand comes in two colors (gold and silver). Its hard to decide which model looks better. Although the Canon PowerShot S880IS digital camera has a more stylish design, many still prefer a basic, no-frills design.
Winner: Draw.
Features: The SD1100IS has an 8MP image sensor and a 3x optical zoom while the SD880IS can take images with up to 10MP in resolution and a 4x optical zoom. The 880IS also have a larger 3" LCD screen (as opposed to a 2.5" LCD screen). Both models come with motion detection technology and also auto image stabilization. The SD1100IS has an optical viewfinder that is not found on the other model.
Winner: Canon PowerShot SD880IS digital camera
Verdict: All in all, when it comes to features, the Canon PowerShot SD880IS digital camera is clearly the better choice. The biggest flaw of this model will have to be its design. The compact and simple design of the SD1100IS is simply irresistible for many (including yours truly). If you love the design of the new 880IS, it is worth forking out the extra $15 as it contains much more advanced features compared to the other model.
