You ever have wondered if you buy a canon case waterproof camera and jumping in the ocean to adjust a few photos of the beautiful coral reef could destroy the camera? Thus, you would be right to ask, because it certainly could. Water and digital electronics is a bad combination. A_el_menos for electronics is a bad idea--the water will be fine;) If you still think that try would be a good idea, there are some simple precautions you can take to improve the chances of a good experience.
Even experienced divers have precautions taken before each dive in themselves and their teams. That includes and equipment of photography that I am using. If your camera is new, be sure to read the manual carefully and understand the proper use of appropriate. It includes the maximum depth for the case is classified. It can vary a little. Some are good at 200 feet, but some are less than 100.
First, try the case with nothing in it (at least nothing valuable) in the bathtub or a receiver. Leave it there for a good hour or so. It is an easy test and will do wonders for your level of comfort. Once your case has passed the test, go for a little more than depth. If we plan to do a dive in the swimming pool before your next scuba diving trip, be sure to take your camera along. Take some photos while your in the pool. Preferably from different distances, lighting and angles. This should also give a good idea of what the Canon camera is capable of low water. There are different challenges to get good underwater images. In general, less water between you and the subject better.
After an immersion pool, be sure to wash the housing of the camera in fresh water. Chlorine can be very detrimental to the seals, controls and housing materials.
If appropriate camera is going to escape, is going to be around the seals. You may want to inspect these stamps before and after each dive. It should be clean and well lubricated. The case should come with a lubricant or grease to help with this. Not experiment with different lubricants. Use recommended Canon . Not a long dirt or sand on a stamp which allows to filter into the water. Be alert for sand, hair and strange in the stamps particles.
An additional precaution that can be taken is to obtain flood insurance. The value of this varies of course with the replacement cost of the camera. If it is a simple point of $200 and shoot, then it is probably not worth the penalty. $1800 Canon SLR is a different story of course.
A better piece of insurance, would be to take a course in underwater photography. In addition to learning to make the best use of their underwater photography equipment, you can get first-hand advice from experienced underwater photographers. Good advice and preparation, is the best insurance you can get.
