Nikon D40 has been truly great interpreter in the photography market. His rise to the top of the market in cheap digital SLR market is due to the value that buyers felt got the time to buy. It really was a wonderful camera for the beginning DSLR buyers. You can still get a D40, but they already are not manufactured, which is why the supply will run before too long.
The D3000 Nikon has now been released and is already making its presence in the market of cameras. There have been important improvements of the D40, most notably of a sensor of 6.1 Megapixels in the D40 to 10.2 megapixels in the D3000. There have also been updates to technology in LCD screen, engine and auto-focus image processing modes. In general, the cameras are getting "smarter" with each release. Not a reviewer has listed a refusal on his new D3000.
The direct competition of canonto the D3000 is the Canon Rebel XSi (aka D 450). They have very similar specs and features, but the Rebel XSi has been already in the market for a year and a half.
Here is an interesting observation. Canon and Nikon have gone head to head for as digital cameras have existed. Both companies came out with digital SLR cameras of sub-$ 1000 almost exactly the same time. Both companies have similar cameras at all levels in the digital SLR market. There is not a clear winner at any level between Canon and Nikon. The winner is who consider that the buyer of the House to be the winner. If the buyer is a buyer of Nikon, usually stick with Nikon and vice versa for Canon. Few photographers have crossed the line in one way or another, but it is quite rare.
Do so, today, if they are buying a DSLR for the first time, what to choose?
The writer was in the same situation when the D40 and the Canon Rebel 300 D came out. Ready to buy the first digital SLR. Read all the forum posts. You confused by the Canon- Nikon wide mud and name call (I read that the forum posts now only for fun).
Yours really fell on the side of Canon at the time. Now, with the same decision, taking into account the D3000 Nikon and Canon Rebel XSi 450 D, the decision would be for Nikon... just one reason. It is not because I've been satisfied with my team of Canon ... You are welcome. The decision will be based solely on the age of the Chambers; the Nikon is more recent and really costs a few dollars less. But either is an excellent choice will be. And well give you stunning images that will have. And both will be replaced by new models in the very near future.
Go ahead and read the messages in the Forum. But be prepared to be spread by some very inflexible fans of Canon or Nikon. It is kind of like going to a football match at the stadium of the New York Giants if they are playing the Jets. It will be difficult to obtain an impartial opinion because they are rival cross.
