The Canon PowerShot G10 is an evolutionary not revolutionary upgrade the well-regarded G9. But that is like saying humans evolved from apes. The difference is still notable. Withdraw this digital camera range finder-style and you will find a grave photo gorilla.
Resolution has been uploaded to a whopping 14.7 megapixels. True, for some something about 6-8 MP is a waste. But this is a technical point and there are two points on it. One is that consumers really want higher res. Secondly, apart from the mind "bigger is better", has still true that the more information on the chip, the information get most of it.
When comes to expand, select small sections or simply create more impressions usual (such as, say, 20 x 24), which help the number of additional pixels. The chip has to be "low-noise", of course. Be assured that Canon offers really here with his new Digic IV processor.
The PowerShot G10 also houses an impressive high-speed Servo AF (autofocus). Frame static shot and it doesn't matter much. A fraction of a second further to focus on a flower not to disturb anyone. But it is essential for sports shots. Canon does a stellar job here, too. Gaps between shots are minimal. A home second 1.3 is barely perceptible. Bright light time between shots is less than half a second increase only 0.8 sec for low-light scenarios.
Sometimes you have to make quick shots. Times are a from more for the G10 from Canon's top of the class. But not by much. Two shots back to having only a 2.2 second delay. Using flash blows 2.9 sec - more slowly than a SLR high-end, as say the XSi EOS, but still very good for a "prosumer" camera.
Those shots will be sharp and clear, too. Several features of the PowerShot G10 guarantee. Canon lenses are among the best and this model is no exception. F2.8, lens 27-140 mm (equivalent) allows you to operate at low shutter speeds in low light. You'll still get a wide-angle to medium telephoto zoom. The displacement of lens image stabilisation ensures that you will get sharp shots all the time.
The Canon PowerShot G10 even provides for an exposure compensation dial, for more precise adjustments. His images are always as close to perfect as technology can offer. With Canontechnology, it is fairly close.
Change the AF area. So narrow to "spot" (a feature normally found only in digital SLR cameras high-end). When you compose outside Centre which come in very handy. The approach is excellent from the Center to the edge, as you would expect with a Canon lens. It remains so, that even focused on long distances.
