Canon Rebel XTi (400 D) runs away from the bleeding edge

The Canon Digital Rebel XTi (400 D) is the second last in the line of Canon digital SLR aimed at the enthusiast market segment. The successor to the Digital Rebel XT (350 D) and camera Digital Rebel (300 D) original in fact marked a turning point in the digital SLR market.

It was released in October 2006, exactly three years after the first of the series (Canon Digital Rebel), with characteristics that eluded many professional cameras. Interesting features digital sensor cleaning (EOS integrated cleaning system), the possibility of image, AF sensor styles, support of 9 points, F2.8 maximum aperture and a super bright 2.5-inch screen.

Based on the CMOS sensor of 10.1 Megapixels and DIGIC II of Canonimage processing engine. Criticism of any camera that produces less noise in images with a sensitivity of ISO400 and above, surpassing more expensive cameras like the Nikon D80. This House has some complaints from consumers with large hands due to the small control and brand buttons. Other competitors are the Nikon D40x, the Sony Alpha 100 and the Pentax K10D.

Although it is a product for the amateur photographer, does not offer all the features of the Canon EOS 30 d or Nikon D200. Its image quality is just below the cameras. Obviously their top models shutter speed 1/4000 and burst of speed of 3 frames per second (fps) does not match the specifications of the professional cameras but meet the needs of the most advanced amateur photographers (prosumers).

The camera is definitely small, which can be a problem for some, especially if their hands are large or have large lenses, which recommend the grip battery (Canon BG-E3 battery Grip) that also offer place for a second battery. The camera with the greatest grip balance and add a more accessible trigger to shoot photos vertically.

The screen deserves a chapter apart due to significant improvements in comparison with earlier models (Digital Rebel and Digital Rebel XT). It now offers a wide viewing angle of 160 degrees and is bright enough to see photos taken in direct sunlight. It is a pity that the small screen LCD of previous models and will not be able to recompose the picture across the screen, which allows that some reflex digital technology with Liveview.

After using LCDS point-and-shoot, I have to admit that more than once I am annoyed having to use a viewfinder. It is also a big surprise to prosumers mandating a camera in this price range using the optical viewfinder when framing your photos. The latest Rebel Xsi, removes this restriction.

Other reviews I've read, made negative comments about the life of the battery (rechargeable batteryCanon NB-2LH) that comes with the camera (720 mAh). Especially when the competition offers around 1500 mAh battery. Another good reason to choose the grip of additional battery (Canon BG-E3 battery Grip).
