How long will continue to house factory boot over and over again to keep the cameras with the same defects? Apparently, only a little more. It is like Canon and others are asleep at the wheel. Buy a Canon PowerShot SX100IS Digital could be a disappointment for many, proposal unless they are informed of what can and can not do the camera. So, in the spirit of spreading the word, let's look a better second the SX100IS and see what is in store for the buyer's perspective.
The flash is a little different from the installation. For some it is a bonus, but nothing more than a pain. In most point and shoots, flash always is alive and will be used automatically for more interior pictures. However, for the SX100IS you manually pop-up flash before a picture is taken. Canon is assuming that the user can decide if the flash is necessary rather than let the camera decide. It is a mistake in my mind. Purchase of point and shoots as this camera Canon Powershot, most people don't want to think before each image on the lighting conditions. They just want the image. Most of the time, people are most going to forget the flash pop up, and end up missing some great photos.
And here is another surprise. Wait a second delay four or five between taking photographs while the SX100IS flash reloads. Like all other point-and-shoot out there. I know that this does not happen in the SLR camera category, but I also don't think should have spend $600 more to get that feature. With the amount of money consumers have gone from digital cameras, industry needs to focus its activities of r & d on this problem. Waiting for the point and shoot camera users to get the perfect picture of the first time that it is reasonable. Even professionals are not good.
For some artificial reason, Canon has decided to avoid zoom during recording with video SX100IS digital camera. There is no technical reason to do so. It works well in some of their more expensive cameras. Almost smells of crippling deliberately this PowerShot SX100IS for marketing reasons in an attempt to make the more expensive cameras tempting.
Once in a while you find a camera that seems to be the one for you. In the case of the SX100IS, I found something wanting more. Unfortunately, I still have some complaints:
-image quality suffers in lighter environments
-No viewfinder, which limits options for users
-LCD screen does not have any protection and susceptible to scratching
-Scroll wheel is too sensitive and prone to incorrect setting selection
While the PowerShot SX100IS is not what one might expect, with the appropriate photographer it would be OK. The problem is that there are so many other good camera options to consider. Canon and others seem to have spread their very fine product lines, in an attempt to build the perfect camera for all. If you see enough, I am sure that you will find significant for you camera.
