Canon's D10 is one of the most resilient digital cameras in the world. The bulky camera with soft buttons may look like a child's toy, but do not be fooled by it's casual demeanor. The D10 comes with a 3.7x image stabilized lens, a 12.1 megapixel sensor and is waterproof up to 10 metres, shockproof (it can fall from a height of 4 feet without taking any damage) and freeze-proof up to minus 10 degrees Celsius.
Sounds unbelievable? There's more to come. The camera comes packed with features, and has four accessory ports on it's corners. A safety cable that comes with the device can be attached to any one of these ports. The fixed lens makes the camera difficult to carry around, but for an adventurer, it couldn't get better. With internal seals on all the ports, and rubberised buttons, the camera feels quite waterproof. Tests conducted on the camera have shown that there is no condensation of moisture anywhere inside the camera at any temperature.
The buttons and controls on the camera are arranged just like they are on other Canon cameras. For users who have used a Canon before, the D10 will feel very familiar. Clear, intuitive control design, simple graphic menus and playback and editing tools make the camera a delight to work with. A large, bright 2.5 inch glare-coated LCD display does away with the need for an optical viewfinder, and provides good visibility even under direct sunlight. The camera's response times are good. It takes about 1.2 seconds to start up, around 2 seconds to recover after taking a snap, and up to 4 seconds to recover after taking a snap with the flash.
The only things that hold the D10 back are it's poor battery life and cost. The camera costs about the same as an underwater housing for normal cameras, so users who already have professional cameras would rather buy a housing for their cameras, rather than going for a D10.
