Canon IXUS 990 IS is the advanced digital camera compact most expensive available without any manual control. So the big question is what pay and is the IXUS 990 worth its strong price tag?

The design of the camera is probably a good place to start. What constitutes a good digital camera looks now is really in the eye of the beholder. Having said that I think that Canon has produced a very attractive camera. Some subtle curves to help the camera to give a sculptured appearance that have few other cameras have been introduced. This helps ensure that the IXUS 990 IS looks a little different and simply do not offer the same bland design that you find with so many digital cameras. This camera feels good in the hand and gives the feeling of being well done with an excellent quality of generation.

If you activate the camera more see the back side of the camera is dominated by a large 3 inch LCD screen. They say that the size is not important, but certainly helps when aligning a shot or access the menu system. Talking about the system of menus Canon has recently updated the design are used. I am very impressed with the new look and I found it very easy to read. The screen quality is outstanding. Part of the reason for this is that Canon has doubled the number of pixels used in comparison with the standard amount of a compact digital camera. With 461.000 rather than the 230,000 standard the screen becomes bright, clear and sharp. It seemed easy to see screen even on a sunny day.

The most basic functions include a 12 megapixel sensor and a 5 x optical zoom. 12 megapixels smacks of excessive, especially if all are planning to do is to make snapshots size prints. In fact everything that is likely to happen is that you will find in the memory card filling up quite quickly. Opting to shoot at lower resolutions will slow down the speed in which the card is filled. It also opens up some power of additional zoom for use. Speaking of cards of memory is currently Canon policy does not include a memory card with the camera and not build in any internal memory. Therefore, if you don't have a compatible card (SD, SDHC, MMC or MMC Plus) will need to purchase one before using the camera. You may be able to find a good deal if you buy one with your own camera or if you shop with specialists of dedicated memory.

While you are considering what memory card to buy it worth considering if you plan to shoot short films with the camera and if or not going to take advantage of the films of high definition IXUS 990 is capable of taking. If then is needed to purchase a fast card with a minimum speed of 5 rating, otherwise memory card will not be able to store footage fast enough and the camera will make use of firing rates of standard definition.

When it comes to image quality I was impressed with the IXUS 990 IS was able to offer. To take the price into consideration anything less than very good image quality would be unacceptable. Another more was the speed at which I was able to turn on the camera and take the first picture. Shutter delay times were in general very good without flash. Turn on the flash had slowed down the right Chamber.

Overall I am impressed with the Canon IXUS 990 IS. Only you can decide or not the camera is worth your hard earned money, but certainly ticks most of the boxes on the right when it comes to quality.
